Saturday 27 March 2010

Today, both Sitara & Sachin went for swimming (in the afternoon) at Petawawa pool (DunDonald Hall) with their parents . Their grandparents (nana & nani) also joined in the fun.  They also spent part of the morning at shoppping and attending a friend’s party.  After swimming , they all (kid and their parents) went to Pembroke for shopping etc. - their nana & nani returning home to Deep River.

This day Sitara got some virus and first threw up and the lost her voice. She seems to have a head cold. This sort of bug is going around the area.

She is recovering but remained at home . Well, it seems now her mom has also got a head cold but all are coping well.

Note; Her nana is now getting a bit bold in the swimming pool and have learnt to swim on his chest - by himself. He is okay for swimming on his back.  Today , he did two breadths by swimming on his chest - which is a vast improvement from a month ago when he would just sink if he tries to swim on his chest.

Thursday  1 April 2010

By this time,  Sitara had recovered from her head cold and thus gone to her BabySitter’s place for the day. So when her nana/nani travelled to Toronto (to-day) by car to spend the Easter weekend with her mama (Sunir) & mami (Shannon) - she was not home at Mackey when her grandparents stopped by en route to Toronto.  However, Sachin was there - and as usual he was playful and had great time with his grandparents.  He gave his normal mischievious smiles to his nana and also to his nani  - and after about 2 hours of playing with Sachin, both nana & nani went on their way to Toronto. Sachin’s mom was left to feed Sachin his lunch by herself  - well this is the normal happening most days.

Note: Both the grandparents had a great time in Toronto with Sunir/Shannon for the Easter Weekend - went to park on Friday for a picnic - playing freezbee , flying kites and having fun with Chicko - the dog which Shannon and Sunir are baby-sitting when Shannon’s parents are travelling in Europe for a holiday. Also on Friday evening they all went to see a movie called ” Cooking with Stella”. - with a cross-cultural theme - a hubby ( a chef by professsion) of a woman Canadian diplomat in India (in Delhi) - trying to learn Indian Cooking from the Diplomat’s cook , Stella.  A Deepa Mehta & Dilip Mehta (her brother’s) effort.

On Saturday, the grandparents along with their mama & mami - spent shopping, eating out for lunch at Brar’s (in Mississauga) and then visiting Sunit at his store in Don Mills - from where they obtained Dvds for film Paa -and others. On Saturday evening, while Shannon was busy making preparations for the Easter party (at their house) on Sunday noon- the grandparents  and Sunir watched the Indian Movie called  “Paa “.   The film is based on a genetic condition known as Progeria and places emphasis on a father-son relationship.

On Sunday, Shannon/Sunir had an Easter Party at their home - for noon - for relatives  . We had a great time . There was a “egg in the spoon race ” as well as  the ” Easter Bingo ” for fun - apart from sumptuous lunch dishes. In the evening, after all had gone from the party, we had rest and then played cards (Bridge) till from about 9.30 p.m to 11. 30 p.m.

Monday 5 April 2010

The grandparents returned back from Toronto to-day  and stopped by at Mackey to play with the grandkids (Sitara & Sachin) .

They arrived at Mackey at Nina/Sunjay’s place at about 5.30 p.m. - whed Sitara had just woken up from her afternoon nap.

Sachin was up and playing. Sitara had prepared an Easter Card for her nana/nani -  and she gave that to them with all the flourish and fun. Sitara played with her nana & wanted to dance with music from her own new pink Barbie radio . Both nana & nani had a dance with her -she as usual dancing going round and round. They all had dinner together .  Nana also read her a couple of books .

Sachin was all in good form and played with his nana & nani - of course separately and togather.  Sachin can sit very nicely by himself now and since yesterday he does move forward on his own by shuffling on his bum. His mom calls it ‘bum shuffle” . He is very athletic  when doing his “bum shuffle”  to move forward to get some toy or other.  He does roll for sometime now but cannot yet crawl. However, he tries very much to move on his belly and makes swimming like “leg movement” - and ends up moving but backward.  He does move measurably (backward) but not a big distance as yet. The foreward movement is done by “bum shuffle”  - sitting erect .  He is trying for crawling - it seems it will take some tiime before he can manage that. Only time will tell.

Thursday 8 April 2010

Today, kids came home (with their mom) to celebrate their nana’s 70th birthday. Their dad joined the celebration in the evening after work.

Sitara was all excited and spent the morning hugging and being very nice to her nana -played with him “catch” - with the pink baloon.

Sachin was as usual a happy toddler - even though he got his 6 month vaccination.  This little toddler is strong and he did not cry for possible pain due to the vaccination.  He played with his toys (picking and choosing and playing and discarding ) - all by sitting nicely and erect on the living room carpet at his nana/nani home in Deep River.

In the evening after their afternoon nap , Sitara helped her nani to make chappatis  (Indian bread) . She rolled chappatis along with her nani - in fact she made/rolled  some 7 chappatis which were “shallow fried” by her nani. Sitara shared these chappatis with everyone - her mom, her nana, her nani & also her dad - who had just arrived from his work. However, she ate only the chappatis prepared by her nani-as a show of respect for nani’s effort.

Later, after dinner, she helped her nani & mom to spread icing on the birthday cake & a muffin. She helped her nana to extinguish the birthday candles and also to cut the cake.

The top is all, she expressed to stay the night (sleep over) at her grandparents home - which was music to grandparents. In fact she slept in Deep River at her nana/nani home. She got her books read and coddled by her parents, nana & nani before falling to sleep. She really was a s pecial guest - first time slept  over in the room made over for her - in the “Princess” motif.

Note: yesterday (Wednesday 7 April 2010) - was unique - in the sense that this was first time Sachin had left a voice mail  on his nana/nani phone. His chatterings sound was some 60 minutes long  - when his nana was away playing cards (social bridge) at Deep River Library and nani was out shopping groceries.

Sunday 11 April 2010

Today, both nana & nani went to Mackey to spend time with Sitara & Sachin - before they fly out to England in few days. It was planned to spend time with Sitara in the garden - raking and preparing the garden for planting later. However, the day was gray and a bit cool & slightly windy. So it was decided not to spend too much time outdoors and catch cold prior to travel to England.

Also the roof contractor was there putting in the new roof (he started the work yesterday on Saturday) -as the old roof on the Mackey house was found leaking last year. This then gives a bit of a safety concern for the young child . Sitara had a few minutes of swing play and cursory dab at the sandbox.

Sachin was his usual self - all happy and learning to make sounds. He did say and repeated  ”dada”  ”dada” a couple of times as his daddy was caoxing him to say “daddy”  “daddy “.

After dinner and setting up the Dodge mini van with kids cars seats — to make it ready for travel to Ottawa airport to take the family to embark on the plane - Sitara expresssed her desire to spend a night at nana/nani house in Deep River.   This was music to her nana/nani ears . She travelled with her nana/nani in the new 2010 Toyota Corolla to Deep River and after having few books read to her by her nana & then nani - she went to sleep nicely.

She is a special guest at her nana/nani home and they loved every minute of it. She enjoyed too with all the love and charm that enthused from her soul.

Monday 12 April, 2010

The morning came bright and sunny. Sitara slept well and woke up at about 8.30 a.m. She was a doll - drank her milk, went to potty and got her self ready (of course helped by her nani). She then ate her breakfast - completed two puzzles -both of Princess matrix - but though a bit complex for a 2 1/2 year old - completed these in no time. She like puzzles and do these very methodically  and with ease. After the puzzles , she went into the kitchen and worked with her nani to make  dough for chappatis. She made her own while nani made the rest.  She then had a bath and got ready to go to the park with her nana. She hugged and hugged and kissed and played with her nana as she got ready - helped by her nani.

Her nana took her to the park behind the house - an open park but with no swing set etc for the kids. She had a ball (black & white with some air out) with her- which she and nana played catch for a few minutes and then kicked the ball around. She does good kicking - took the ball across the park by kicking it.

She want to go on a swing set and that she expressed very politely to  her nana . Her nana then took her to the park on Huron Road where there was a swing set.  She enjoyed her swing and wanted to go higher and higher. She and Her nana sang the following song (in a melodious tune) while she was swinging.

Sandy

Sandy Randy

Sandy Randy Candy

Sandu Randy Candy

Sandy Randy

Sandy

repeated few times in a chorus mode (by her nana & her) and enjoyed the thrill of singing it.  It was just fabulous.

After that her nana brought her home - he left for lunch at Bears Den with Dale (his stock expert) and she was entertained by her nani who prepared her a grilled cheeze sandwich -which she enjoyed eating. Funny her nana also had a grilled cheeze sandwich for lunch at Bears Den.

After her lunch, she joined her nani to roll the dough (earlier prepared) to  make chappatis. She rolled more than 10 chappatis. All well done.

After that she went to sleep (her afternoon nap) - a bit late than usual but all satisfied - of course before that she completed few puzzles and had a couple of books read to her by her nana (such “ Donald had a bad day ”  and ‘ Pinnochio ” ) .

Note: Her favourite question often is ” What’s that noise?   This is always so since when she can communicate. She picks up any unusual sound - a truck passng on the road when she is inside the home or a stone clinker hitting the car when she is in the car - when the car is running on the road. Her vocabulary is extensive for a 2 1/2 year old girl and she can articulate what she wants to say or want - all in polite and charming way.

By the way, she stayed another night at her nana/nani home.  This is the first that she has stayed overnight in Deep River (alone without her parents & brother) for two consecutive days.

Tuesday 13 April 2010

This morning was also bright and sunny. Sitara woke up nicely at about 8.00 a.m.  After waking, she had her milk and got ready . She then ate her breakfast - milk and cereal. She liked Kelogg corn flakes and Kashi cereal.  Half way thru her breakfast, she wanted to sit on her nana’s lap and finish her breakfast. She ate every lttle mosel of the cereal.

Once the breakfast was over , she did dabble into a few small puzzles and then she went outdoors with her nana. She learnt about placing biological waste into Compost , played a few minutes in the backyard but then wanted go to the “park with swing set”.  Howver, not like yesterday, when they went in the car - today she wanted to go by her stroller - walking. So both she & her nana went walking (she  of course in her stroller) to the Huron Road Park - which is quite near to the Deep River house.    She enjoyed her swing - again both she & her nana sang the song made yesterday ( Sandy ; Sandy Randy ; Sandy Randy Candy) . She also enjoyed going on the titter totter.   Nani remained at home preparing lunch

After coming home, all sat for lunch - she had a hamburger and french fries.   She also did exercises (gymnastic style)  with her nani in the living room - using towals as mats.  Then she went to have her afternoon  nap - very satisfied and lovingly.

After she woke up at about 4.30 p.m -she got ready - all helped by her nani and then waited for her daddy to pick her up to take her to Mackey. Her daddy and she went to Mackey at about 5.00 p.m.

She was  a great guest - very understanding and charming and all playful and hugs and kisses. Boy, she can converse!!

Wednesday 14 April 2010

Both nana/nani went to Mackey to spend time with the grandchildren - a day before they fly to London.  It was a great time together - though nana went away for the afternoon to play his social bridge card game at the library, Deep River. Note their nana & his partne, Marcel, scored some 6400 points - a tad bit lower than what they achieved during last month (some 7900 points) . Anything over 6000 points get each of them a big chocolate bar (Mr. Big).

However, he (nana) was back before 5.00 p.m and kids were having their afternoon nap.  All had dinner together and kids played with each of the grandparents and their parents as the mood would dictate. Then they went to sleep before nana/nani left to go to Deep River.

Note: This day, the baby Sachin had sprouted his two front teeth (bottom)  and these were visible a bit.

Tuesday 20 April 2010

Well, they did not go to England after all. The flight which was planned on Thursday 15 April was cancelled due to heavy Volcanic Ash clouds blanketing England. The volcano ash came from a volcano which erupted in Iceland.  Volcanic eruption in Iceland

A huge cloud of ash formed from the eruption of a volcano on the Eyjafjallajoekull glacier in Iceland.
Luckily we found out early in the morning about the cancellation of Air canada flight on Thursady (15 April) and luckily  Sunjay/Nina had not left home (Mackey) to go to Ottawa. A rearrangement to travel was agreed with Air Canada for Wednesday 21 April ( the day nana - being the Chair, had organised a program for the Engineering local Chapter ). So there was this dilemma of missing that event in case the flight is on. However, the volcanic ash problem was not over as yet and to-day (on Tuesday 20 April 2010) Nina/Sunjay postponed their visit to London until in June .
It is safer that way - but who knows how long this uncertainty about the Volcanic Ash clouds remains .
On Saturday 17 April 2010, Sitara (being here in canada and not gone to London. UK ) went to her Gym class at Mackenzie High School building . This was her last day of the Duct Gym program for the season and she really enjoyed it.  Both parents were there, Sachin was there - all happy and contented in his daddy’s lap for a while and then with his nani . Both nana & nani also went to witness Sitara’s work at the Gym.
Today ( Tuesday 20 April, 2010) the whole family spent time at nana/nani home in Deep River. Sunjay is on vacation from work and thus was able to spend time with the family.  Sachin and Sitara always enjoy their visits to nana/nani home.
After lunch , Sitara and Sachin had their nap and the adults played cards  (whists) . After the kids’ nap, all went to the park (near marina/lighthouse area in Deep River). Sitara enjoyed her slides and also throwing pebbles in the Ottawa River. Sachin was contented to be coddled by adults and outdoor air.
After the park visit, all came home - hungry and ready for dinner. First, Sachin got his bottle of milk . He was nourished by his dad . Sachin enjoyed the bottle well and to-day he started to hold the bottle by himself - though a bit nervously . It won’t be long when he will independently hold his milk bottle. Also when he was having his solid food later, he got his first taste of yogurt made at home by his nani .  He liked it.
During dinner, Sitara expressed her wish to have a sleep-over at her nana/nani home.  This was convenient too as next day she was going to her BabySitter and thus she can be taken there by her nana rather than coming all the way from Mackey. So she spent night in Deep River. She always is an excellent guest and family member.
Wednesday 21 April 2010
Sitara spent the day at her BabySitter - taken there by her nana/nani. In the evening she was picked by her parents  - who spent the evening at Deep River and shared dinner with the grandparents.  Sitara & Sachin were as usual very loving.
In fact Sitara expressed her desire to spend another night (sleep-over) at her nana/nani place. Which was allowed and she slept over.
On Thursday 22 April - she spent time with her nani and went outdoors in the backyard and the park behind the backyard. There she did bubbles and played with a couple of kids who had also come to the park . She saw kite flying and was excited about it. Her nana had gone in the morning to Petawawa to play  bridge and came back  to join Sitara and her nani for lunch.
After afternoon nap, she was driven to Mackey by her nana/nani in their new 2010 Toyota Corolla. In the car she wanted her nani to sit beside her on the backseat . Both of them had a good joyful conversation  and it seems Sitara was very much enjoying her time with her nani.
Then somewhere, when approaching close to Mackey, she started to sing rhythmically the following lyrics - that she had made up there in the car.
I    yum yum

I    yum  yum

 yum yum
and repeating it - very musical to the ears.
When asked, she said it was to remind that it was food (meal) time - as it getting to be about 5.30 pm in the evening.
After, arriving at Mackey, all had dinner at Nina/Sunjay home
.
Note:  As Nina/Sunjay had postponed their travel to UK until June - they had decided to take their tour of USA now rather than as earlier planned to go there after coming from UK.
They are leaving for Pennsylvania, USA  tomorrow on Friday 23 April 2010. Both kids will have nice tour and meet some of their relations (Sunjay’s side).
