Thursday 23 July 2009

What a week!  First welcome to our second grandchild, Sachin Sunjay Mistry- a brother to Sitara - who was born at 11.35 am on Monday 20 July 2009 at the Ottawa General Hospital, Ottawa. Both Nina (his mom) and Sunjay (his dad) are doing fine. Sitara (his sister) is ecstatic.  Of course the grandparents , here in Canada and the Grandma in England are just swooning with joy.

Sachin decided to come a bit early (about 3 weeks) and got everyone (parents & sister as well as maternal grandparents) scrambling to Ottawa General Hospital in the wee hour (at about 3.30 am) of Monday. He was welcomed by his mom & dad at 11.35 am and by his sister, Sitara and maternal grandparents in about a couple of hours .

Sitara just displayed her happiness very clearly. She wanted to hug him amd kiss him on the cheek and forehead. She had on Sunday wanted the baby to come soon and was telling  the baby in the mommy’s stomach to come out and lo Behold he did decide to arrive .

Sitara, while going around the hospital would announce to all and sundry that she has a baby brother. She would say hi to all the other babies (being carried by their parents -going to & fro on the hospital floor) and then announced in happy tone that she has a brother also.

Sitara learnt her brother’s name , Sachin, from the very beginning and would say “Sachin” in her baby melodious voice and remembered the name at all times .  So sweet to hear this loving expression .

Sitara spent good time with the baby but when the baby & Nina were busy, Sitara spent time with her grandparents. She went on escalators and elevator rides with her Grandpa . She got a stuffed elephant (Hathi -as she knows him) from her Grandpa to commommerate the arrival of her brother.

On Tuesday, she and Grandparents went to St.Laurent Mall  for shopping and then went to Science Museum ground . Sitara had great time there -looking at the rocket, rail engine and then playing with two kids (of about her age or a bit older) in the park - throwing rings and kicking football.

On Wednesday, she went with Grandparents to shopping for some Indian sweets to celebrate the arrival of her brother, Sachin.  After that she spent time with Sachin and had photos taken with Sachin her parents.

After that she had a snooze in the hospital (in the afternoon) and then came to Deep River with her  grandparents.   Her mom & dad stayed behind in Ottawa as Sachin needs to be remaining in the hospital for an extra or two days as the doctors have found that he may have jaundice  (being a bit premature).

Sitara is a doll -a very understanding and loving girl at the age of 2. She has comprehension that many adult would not have.  She is a joy to have.  Her grandma is just tickled pink for having her and looking after her needs and playing with her.

Saturday 25 July, 2009

On Thursday 23 July 2009 , Sachin was released from the Ottawa General Hospital and travelled with his parents to Deep River (on his way home to Mackey) and visited his maternal grandparents (nana & nani).    Ofcourse he was to see his sister , Sitara, too who was at the grandparents. This was Sachin’s first visit to his grandparents.  Sitara just had a lovely time with Sachin- all wanting to hug him and kiss him. She also took a couple of her toys to give and to entertain Sachin. What a sharing spirit.  After some stay and dinner, Sachin went to their home in Mackey with his sister and parents.

On Saturday , there was  a naming ceremony (calld Chhathi in Gujarati) on his 6th day after birth. This was at Mackey. Sitara and the grandparents joined Sachin’s parents in the ceremony and much merriment (though sombre) was enjoyed by all. It seems signs are visible tha Sachin has brought good omen .

He is born the same day his paternal Grandma (who lives in Rugby, England) is born. On his “Chhatti” day, his nana had good fortune to have the only vacant store (in the minimall that he owns) leased out. This is good news from financial angle.

Sunday 26 July 2009

This is the day as I understand from Nina that Sitara had a temperture and threw up a bit. Nina also took Sachin (in the afternoon) to the Deep River Hospital ER for to have him checked-over for eye infection.  His nana went to the hospital just to be with Sachin and his mom. I understand that Sachin dad was a bit under the weather also. Both Sitara and her dad stayed back at home while Sachin was being examined at the ER.

He handled himself well and was diagnosed by the attending doctor to be okay but he was prescribed an ointment to be applied to the outside of the eyes. This becomes proverbially Sachin’s first visit to the doctor (ER) in Deep River after his release from the Ottawa General Hospital after his birth.  His nana held him for a while when at the ER and Sachin fely very comfortable and ceased crying.

In the meantime Sitara started recovering from her slightly elevated temperature.  We get ton know that Sitara was vaving her back teeth (on both sides of her mouth)

Tuesday 28 July 2009

Sitara & Sachin came to Grandparents (together with their parents) at noon and spent the whole day. We had womderful time with both of them and further this allowed a bit of rest for the parents.  Sitara and her nana & nani went to the backyard & from there to the park behind . She saw the tree house (built over three or four trees) that the neighbourhood kids have built in the liittle jungle existing at the edge of the park along Faraday St. That time, Sachin had his feed and went to sleep.  Sitara and Sachin played on nana’s (& nani’s) bed after her return from the outdoors. Sitara lovingly sleeping next to Sachin and occassionally hugging and kissing him.
