I will reread few books which I read over last few years - this to allow me to capture some good essence from the readings.
The recent book I have read is titled ” For Matrimonial Purposes ” by Kavita Daswani. It is funny and fresh spanning two cultures - of India and and America.
I got the book from my daughter. When visiting her home last week, I saw the book on the coffee table . This tempted me to look it over and while there I managed to read the first chapter. It was very captivating. Well written and as I had mentioned earlier, it was very entertaining as I found it very witty.
The writer , Kavita Daswani, is correspondent for many media oulets such as CNN, CNBC , Women’s Wear Daily etc. I find her writing style very fluid and easy to grasp and follow through.
In the end I borrowed the book from my daughter and completed reading the book next day . To be honest, I read the book in the afternoon at a car garage where I took my car (on Monday 28May 2007) for Air-Conditioning repairs. The repairs took 3 hours which was sufficient to complete the book.
It is written well to describe the anguish of an Indian girl who grew up in Bombay (now Mumbai) and was always being pressured to get married. She wrotes about arranged marriage custom in India . Alas she remained void of any good proposals and thus could not find a husband . This drives her parents and relatives into great despair. Ultimately she goes to New York and after many chases and even using the cyberspace to find a husband, it took a chance recommendation by one of her colleagues that results in finding her love and husband without any parental involvement.
