Book Reading - Half Time by Bob Buford
April 22, 2007 on 3:12 pm | In Miscellaneous Musings!, Book Reading | Comments OffAs mentioned earlier on my April 19 2007 post,I have embarked on writing a few words on all the books that I may read in my retirement. I will reread few books which I read over last few years - this to allow me to capture some good essence from the readings.
The second book I have completed reading recently (Today on 2007 April 22) is by Bob Buford . The book is titled “Half Time”. This book is given to me as a parting gift, on my retirement from work, by one of my work colleagues (Segun O). Segun had joined our work team last year.
This book is for guiding successful people who wants to have change in their life and achieve something meaningful in life apart from money and related success. The essence of the book is to focus on to finding a central goal in life which could add significance to life . The book is an inspiring book though centred on serving Christian ministry.
I find the book worth reading even for those of us who are not Christians, as it does provide a practical roadmap for turning our lives for meaningful adventure on this world. There is more in this life than earning a living, accumulation of wealth, gaining few brownie points .This is serving all of the God’s creatures and environment. This is a larger calling which can be fulfilling and joyous. The book leads to recognising and taking steps for understanding the deep meaning of life and exhorting to work to add significance to whatever success we have achieved in life.
The book is not large and easy to read and follow. As the author, Bob Buford said ” My passion is to multiply all that God has given me, and in the process, give it back”.
